Is this the end of good cinema?
I just read an article in today’s newspaper. The newly released film Kambakth Ishq has broken all Indian Box Office opening records.
See its really simple. A big so called Bollywood actor is paid in crores. The bigger the actor, the bigger the money. But why would any person pay so much to an actor and not read the script. That’s even simpler. People like you and me go to the theatres and watch films like these.
Another thing that we take for granted is when actors and directors in their interviews coolly say “See, my friends you should leave your brains at home and watch the film”. I would want to remind them that we will definitely leave our brains behind and go to the theatres provided you don’t leave your brains behind while making the film.
Is this the end of good cinema? No, I think the recession is the beginning of good cinema. Will you buy a Mercedes that doesn’t run or a Maruti that is capable of taking you to office everyday. If your answer is Mercedes, then you deserve to book a seat for a year at a theatre that promises to play Kambakth Ishq through the year.
If you know what I mean…..
Not to forget that it was a re-make/copy of a Tamil flick with Kamla Hassan and that one was WAY better than KI…!
*sigh*
